July is National Grilling Month! Now, we don’t need a whole month to celebrate our favorite way to cook. We tend to celebrate it all year long. But when you love grilling as much as we do, we always want to be improving our game. Here are some tips and tricks for getting better at grilling.
Clean your plates and grill
This seems like such a straightforward idea, but it tends to be the number one thing that gets overlooked while grilling. While you may have used the plate to bring the raw burgers to the grill, you should not use it to transport the cooked burgers back into the house. That is how salmonella gets transferred to your cooked foods. You also need to clean your grill after each use. Any leftover residue gets transferred to your next meal if you do not clean it. Besides, grills are not inexpensive, and they need to be cared for so that they can last for a long time.
Know your meats
For chicken, you want a slow and steady approach. For a crispy outside but still juicy inside make sure you use low heat and turn frequently. If you are cooking beef or pork, try a higher temperature and flip only 4 or 5 times. If you want to make your meats juicer or add some flavors, try marinating them ahead of time. You can use soy sauce, orange juice, Worcester sauce or garlic to add some flair to your dinner.
Know your veggies
Meats aren’t the only perfect food on the grill! Make sure you give your vegetables a chance on the grill. Corn, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, and onions are all wonderful on the grill. If you want to try something more adventurous try watermelon, pineapple or peaches. The grilling brings out the sweetness in them making for a delicious treat!
